15 degrees cooler

If you've been in Western Mass. for the past week, you know how boorishly hot it has been. Because we are surrounded by so many farms, I can't help but think of the folks in the fields. From the local kids picking corn and canteloupe to the migrating workers who pick everything else in between, let's all give a thought of thanks for the damn hard work that they do. When it's so hot like this, I send a prayer of cool misty breezes, a tall glass of ice water, a sudden cloud cover, a delightfully refreshing cold shower and a breath of courage and strength to continue their work. Please, next time you are enjoying the bounty of the Valley, remember the lives of those who work the fields. Farmers and field hands. Send out a nice cold prayer of thanks.
