Another Greenfield story. There's a group of people in town who make prayer shawls. I had never heard of these before, but I'm so glad I know now. I had always thought that homemade blankets and scarves and the like always had extra love woven in. So these prayer shawls are made by The Prayer Shawl Ministry at the First United Methodist Church. They meet the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month April through October. They are both knit and crocheted. ( knitted?) The completed shawls "are free to anyone who needs comfort and a prayer and to know that someone cares." They are given to newly married couples or to someone who has just lost a loved one. They are given in joy and in sadness. This particular group has given away 70 in the last 3 years. What a way to spend an evening. Creating comfort and providing a kind thought in the form of prayer, woven right into the shawl. I think I'll go find my crochet hook.
