LE PROCLAMATION NUMBER DEUX

It's fun thinking about what I'm going to proclaim on this site. Being mindful and actually looking for jolly things to appreciate. Not a bad way to use my brain.

Best Friends Animal Society
http://www.bestfriends.org

Now these people are wonderful. They have an animal sanctuary in gorgeous Kanab,Utah. They are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year. This sanctuary has saved thousands of animals. Dogs, cats, horses, mules, sheep, pigs, birds, rabbits and I'm sure an occasional reptile or two. If you ever get the chance, please visit. There are all kinds of volunteer opportunities and they have overnight facilities for volunteers. You can even bring a dog or two from Dogtown for a sleepover. It helps the animals get some socialization and keeps you from missing your pet at home. They are lovely hosts and are thankful for the help. I have volunteered there twice and it has been one of the most cherished memories I have. It's hard to be in a place as special as Best Friends and not be changed by it.

If you don't have time to volunteer, then you must at least take the tour. They show you all the buildings where the animals are housed and I have to say it is mighty impressive.

You may have heard of them due to the publicity of the Michael Vick dogs. They took in 22 of his pit bulls and are in the process of rehabilitating them. By calling the dogs the Vicktory dogs, they plant success as a seed and nurture the growth with love and reassurance and positivity. WONDERFUL.

So let's all realize the significance of one another and find what's right instead of seeing what's wrong.

HAPPY MARCH

Well hi and hello.

This site is devoted to acknowledging, applauding and singing the praises of the wonderful people in our midst. Many of them are unknown, but all are certainly deserving of kudos galore from our collective minds and hearts.

We are SO here to ensure
that they know
that we know
that they make this world better,
just because they are
who they are.

And I do now hereby proclaim the following people to be wonderful. Let's make this list a BIGGY.

Petfinder
www.petfinder.com

WOW.What can I say? They've changed the face of pet adoption. You can reference animal shelters nationwide and in Canada and Mexico. They "promote shelter pets as the #1 choice for a new pet." Amazing.I can't say enough about the goodness they have brought to world. It's where we found our wonderful boy Taco.I am forever thankful to this fantastic website. Please visit.

Friends Fur Life
http://www.friendsfurlife.com/

They are a non-profit rescue in Tennessee.Taco was rescued from the Campbell County animal shelter and brought up north to New England where we found him in Vermont. Miss Renee Huntley saved Taco's life. Thank-you Renee,thank-you a million times. We love our boy so much.

Random Rescue

Hoo boy. If a dog winds up here he is lucky, lucky. Sam Punchar has a wonderful rescue. She has acres of trails and a pond for swimming and lots of furry pals to goof around with. This is where Taco landed after Renee rescued him. We found him on Petfinder. Go figure. Aren't the circles of life GREAT?

Big Shrimpy
www.bigshrimpy.com

I am so happy I found Big Shrimpy. They are based on the West Coast and they make and sell fabulous pet beds. The beds are completely washable and they use discarded fleece scraps from North American clothing manufacturers for the stuffing. Well, yahoo for recycling and yahoo for wash-ability. I own 4 and they are used daily by our dogs and cats. They really love them. They are one of the best companies around.Great environmental philosophies, great philanthropy, great product. A triple whammy. VERY impressive. Do check them out.

Crossing Paths
www.crossing paths.com

An animal shelter in Alabama. Betty dearest hails from there. The poor girl was pregnant when she arrived there and had her pups in the shelter. From February 2008 through November 2008,she was in the system. All her pups were adopted after being placed on....say it with me, Petfinder. Three wonderful women all had a hand in Betty making her way to us.

Linda Diver brought Betty's pups to a shelter in Pennsylvania. She even kept one,his name is Scuba. Cool name ,huh? After I contacted the shelter to tell them Betty (then Biscuit) had a home, Linda sent me pictures of her pups from the petfinder website.Really...so cute.

Maryellen Tidwell and Shannon Whitfield run the shelter, I believe. Maryellen fostered Miss Betty, but no one was interested in her. Ha. The fools. She is the most delicious smush head ever.
Thanks,ladies.

Can't forget our locals.

Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society
http://www.dpvhs.org/

They do the work to save the lives of the animals. What more is there to say? Big huge hearts giving with far reaching results. Bless, bless, bless.

This site is also a forum for me to go on and on about what I'm calling Creative Philanthropy. Because I've dreamed of having my own foundation, but sorta lack the big wad of moola, I've thought of another way to give. My first foray are these nifty stickers that I had made to benefit my wonderful public library in Greenfield,Mass. They say I love( but really the symbol for a heart) Greenfield. Simple, not ostentatious and much smaller than your average car bumper sticker.Truly they are nifty. So, money gets donated to my library and people show their affection for their cool town. What I've decided is that any item I create in the future will benefit someone, somewhere. Feels good.

Since this is my first post, I'm just going to send it out now.My vision was different though. I imagined pictures of dear boy Taco and trees and cats and the lovely Betty. For now, I gotta just do this thang. Okee doke.Until next time.Big hearts.
