If I asked if you know the little pink sock song, would you know what in tarnation I'm talking about?
Why, the comic strip Mutts of course. Do you know it? Do you love it as much as I do?
Patrick McDonnell writes this strip and he is a man who is full of heart and who has a gargantuan love of animals. If you read it regularly, you know of which I speak. If you don't, well geeze, you just must. You really must.
His characters are wonderful. They range from dogs to cats to crabby crabs to butchers to my favorite, Guard Dog. He wrenches my heart constantly. Such a good boy, such a softie, placed in an unfair but all too realistic situation.
Patrick McDonnell does not shy away from the realities of the animal world. Somehow though, he puts it in your face without shoving it down your throat. From puppy mills to the plight of shelter animals, he's got it covered. Or maybe I should say the animals have it covered, for they are the ones who tell their tales.
He has several books out and his website is marvuloso. Go now. Yesh, yesh yesh.

Whew. I'm still in a state of flabbergast. Did you go read the comments in The Smothers Brothers post? Did you see what someone did? Holy friggin moly!!! I just left my thank-you voice mail with who I have taken to calling Mrs. Wonderful. Did you see what she wrote? She wants me to buy myself a pair of shoes because of what I wrote in my about me section. Well if abundance by magic tells me to buy a pair of shoes you bet my fanny will be in front of the computer bombing through the Zappos website. Or maybe I'll shuffle into DSW. And believe me, these babies will be called my magical shoes. That's right.

I love it. I just find her to be amazing. Thinking about the people she is touching with her generosity, I'm sitting here at a loss for words.
Before I had even received a check, I wrote to her to tell her how HONORED I was to be a recipient. With her kind words and all the lovely responses from people, well it's enough to really make a gal think. This acknowledgement and seeing how she lives and gives has made me feel so much more expansive as a person. More easily seeing goodness in others, looking harder for it and finding ways to give myself.
I told her that when I went through the check-out line at work today, the customer behind me asked me if that was a clementine I was buying. I told her it was a satsuma and told her how yummy they were, etc. Then I paid for it and gave it to her. But the thing is, I gave it to her just to be giving. I gave to give. I didn't want a big gushy thank-you or anything of the sort, I just gave it to her because.
And even Mrs. Wonderful says, not everyone will want you to give to them and that is so okay. It's about you putting it out there with your big ole heart.
I don't know Mrs. Wonderful or where she lives, but I love her totally. Not in a weird stalker way, but more of an I'm so glad you are in this Universe and we shared a lovely moment in time way. Do you have anyone like that? I feel the same way about Joan Armatrading. Don't know her, probably never will, but somehow I feel better just knowing she is there.
So Mrs. Wonderful, bless you, thank-you and may all your days be filled with oodles and oodles of magical abundance.

Howdy folks.
The next two posts have a personal nature to them.
http://www.givinganon.org
Have you heard of these people? It's pretty much what it sounds like. Two couples created this non profit organization to facilitate the giving of financial gifts, anonymously. I think most people can admit there is a good deal of emotional energy around money. I think we all want to be able to give, to help, to make it easier somehow for people we know and people we don't know. This is the place to go for such things.
This site allows you to give a gift of money to someone you know who needs it. You contact the lovely people here, give them the address of the recipient and the dollar amount, arrange payment and they mail a check to your person. It allows giving without any weird feelings of obligation to mussy up the spirit of the gift.
But the cool part is, the recipient can leave a voice mail of thanks at the website and it will be emailed as a voice file to the donor. There are live voice mails that you can listen to on the site and I'm getting all choked up right now thinking of them.
To see the personal nature of this website, please go back to my Smothers Brothers post and read the comments section.
A post about that to follow.
Again...these people who use their brains in such creative and giving ways, gosh almighty, I'm thankful for them.
Big fat squishy hugs.

On my way to work I get to drive over 2 rivers, The Connecticut and The Deerfield.
On my way to work I pass a house with a pond. This pond almost always has ducks in it, and lately there's a heron as well.
On my way to work I pass at least 8 named farms and countless farmed fields.
Enter www.foreverfarmland.org.
In 2009, the town of Hadley joined with The Kestrel Trust, a regional land trust to place Forever Farmland signs on protected farms. Our Pioneer Valley has some of the most fertile land around. Melting glaciers leave good stuff in the soil.
We are so lucky have an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables available from our wonderful farmers. And now, some of these farms are protected forever. Isn't that a nifty and smart thing? I'm so thankful for people with brains who use their smarts for good.
This website lists other land preservation sites, state and federal programs and farm support organizations. A true wealth of information.
