Hopefully you can catch this. If you go to http://www.npr.org and find the tiny desk concert halfway down on the right, you will get such a special treat. You have to listen to it. Der.

Miss Mavis Staples sings 3 songs. She is a delight. Watch the video if your computer has that feature. Soulful, deep down, gutsy, just ultra wonderfulness. I love huh. She is all heart and joy and pain and life well-lived all rolled into one.

Long live Mavis Staples!!!!!

If you go to her website again, www.melissashouse.com, you can see the front and back covers to the books. All the pictures will have captions of the dog's stories. Sure to tug on our collective heartstrings.

58 thousand photos of dazzling dogs

Oh my gawrsh. Melissa McDaniel.

She is a fabulous photographer. She has 2 new books. The first one, called Rescue in America focuses on dogs who have been saved from shelters. The next is simply called Deaf Dogs. When she adopted a deaf dog, she realized that thousands of deaf dogs are put down every year, simply because they can't hear. Through sales of her books, she hopes to raise $300,000 for animal rescue and shelters.

Her photos are gorgeous. So striking in the perfect capture of those furry faces.

Her website: http://www.melissashouse.com contains tons of information and cool links about her projects. She is a dynamo I tell ya. Don't you just love it when people find the thing that feeds them and at the same time does so much good? Because while she is raising money for animals, she is also hoping to educate people about animal adoption and rescue.

Please go to the website. Check out her blog. Maybe buy the books?
